THE BLACK RIDERS CONNECTION:

Picture a hot summer day in South Central Los Angeles, news reports interrupt the normally scheduled program with an emergency flash across the TV screen. The notorious trigger-happy LAPD just gunned down another defenseless Black child in the heart of the ghetto for nothing other than the officers falsely assuming that the supposed “suspect” had a gun. The officers, equipped with numerous less-lethal and lethal high-powered weapons, once again crossed the line and chose to use deadly force against a Black civilian for being armed with a mere black cell phone. More information will be given during the News at 11:00 PM...

The TV screen is immediately turned off. A highly secret organized system of communication begins. All across Southern California, formerly hostile young Black men and women from the lumpen-proletariat warrior class brief to the tragic incident. This so-called justifiable homicide is not justified to them. The war drums beat louder and louder in their hearts as the information is passed around and down the rigid chain of command. The unification that binds them together is a bulletproof Black Love forged and steeled from an extreme knowledge of their African history and the savage white racist, capitalist oppression of over four hundred years. Outwardly they appear to be average Black youth, a part of the Hip Hop generation, until put under close examination and you notice the military discipline in their every movement. Only when they shed the XXXL T-shirts and oversized baggy sagging pants into Black berets, leather jackets, camouflage pants, and big Black boots will anyone really notice this POWERFUL armed Black Revolutionary organization. This extraordinary transformation in their appearance will take place when the coded messages reach the bottom of the rank and file membership and flow back up to the top of the Democratic Centralized structure. Soldiers who embody the undying loyalty to the new Black Liberation struggle emerge from cars, homes, low-income projects and off numerous street corners, clubs, college campuses. All of them are hard-faced, tough, and love their people!

This display of strength and unity among former "gang" banging young Blacks puzzles and shocks most people, especially the racist barbarian LAPD. This is something new, powerful and amazing to them. They had a long history of dealing with Blacks, and nothing was better known than the disunity, misguided rage, and animosity of one group toward another. How was this DEEP spectacle of many different "tribal" individuals forming solid disciplined lines of unity under a Black leader to be explained? This was seen as a very real threat to the fascist Amerikkkan state. This Black unity will inspire massive Black Power, which, of course, will reduce white power and its domination of the whole earth. These formerly disunited individuals are now unified under my generalship, and we have opened a full-scale war against the evil forces of oppression, aimed at driving them out of every Black community in the US. The successful Black Panther military tactics of Huey Newton and the great General George Jackson are remembered and followed: careful, unhurried training and political organization; the secret movement of troops in small groups in different directions, all assembling at a stated time and place near enemy pig strongholds; then swift-moving, generally surprise attacks by different people on different centers of white supremacy. These operations took years of tedious and dangerous organizing in every hostile tribal area to build.

The real reason for the series of victories over the racist enemy is our extensive knowledge of revolutions on the planet, and our battle tested make up from growing up in the neo-colonial "Concrete Vietnam” of the Los Angeles gangland. We are now reaching out to other young Black Africans throughout the world because we realize that L.A. is not the only Black community that has been ravaged by the government created Black on Black violent crime. The fascist state smuggled drugs and guns into our communities to keep us fighting each other instead of attacking them like during the late 1960's and early 1970's. These were just some of the weapons and tactics used to destroy the old Black liberation movement.

We have begun to change the Black on Black violent criminal mentality into a Black Revolutionary mentality. The so-called Lost Generation X is now beginning to morph into Generation Malcolm X!

CONFRONTATIONAL POLITICS TO COMBAT FASCISM!!

Confrontational Politics is a brand new name for an upgraded style of militant, forceful, head on tactics; designed to challenge the racist oppressor. It incorporates armed and unarmed aggressive self-defense in an aboveground blend of using disciplined Black formations. Its Genesis and early beginnings has roots that stretches way back to Marcus Garvey's United Negro Improvement Association's Self Defense wing called the Black Legion and Malcolm X's late 1950's The Fruit of Islam.
Marcus Garvey was a great black leader who understood the necessity to present to the Black masses a disciplined above ground militant unit that would represent an uncompromising stance in the face of violent white racist retaliation triggered by any black organization seeking freedom. He was the premier leader who first put the critical need for self-defense on the map. He understood that security and protection was interconnected with Black dignity especially since white supremacy and capitalism relied on sheer force to enslave black people. This racist intimidation was emitted from many different elements of white Amerikkkan society. It is what forbids the majority of Blacks from participating in any legitimate struggle whether it is consciously or unconsciously acknowledged.
Marcus Garvey's Black Legion wore military clothing, trained openly in military drills, and carried long swords publicly whenever it was legal to do so. It was an aboveground apparatus. When the U.S. Governments secret polite force known as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F. B. I.) recognized the threat of the Black Legion, Marcus Garvey was one of the first blacks put on the dangerous subversive list and the U. S. Government's secret war plan called Counter Intelligence Program (COINTELPRO) was originally created to target him and his organization. COINTELPRO's insidious use of legal and illegal tactics to disrupt and neutralize Marcus Garvey's "Back to Africa" movement consisted of informants; agent provocateurs, attempted assassinations, and bogus trumped up charges against innocent Black people in the U. N. I. A.
Even though the Black Legion never really engaged the racist authorities or any white supremacy organization in an aboveground confrontational political demonstration, the seed of potential of a clash was planted in the racist white psyche, so therefore, the U. N. I. A. was sought out to be eliminated. This is not to say that there were no underground aggressive attacks launched by the Black Legion but what we are mainly concerned with within this analysis is aboveground confrontation. We are very sure that there were secret strikes carried out by the Black Legion against critical Racist targets by the official policy of the U. N. I. A. towards the Black masses was that the Black Legion represented just the idea or concept of self-defense and was not a formation that engaged in serious direct confrontation. It mainly provided security for the organization and its leadership officials at public events or it paraded around in large formations as a self-defense symbol of dignity for Black people.
In the late 1950's Malcolm Little became Malcolm X after he joined the original Nation of Islam led by Elijah Muhammad. Malcolm X was fresh out of prison where he was recruited into the N. O. I. Since Malcolm was a former street hustler and ex-prisoner, he maintained a link to Black people in those areas. Elijah Muhammad gave Malcolm permission to organize those Blacks into self-defense unit called the Fruit of Islam (F. O. I.). Malcolm brought brothers in from off the streets and taught them Judo martial arts, military drills, discipline, and the N. O. I. self-defense philosophy. "Officially" they carried no carnal) Bodily) weapons. They didn't have a policy towards confrontational political demonstrations at that time mainly because they considered themselves to be primarily a spiritual organization.
 Then on one amazing politically charged night, Malcolm X was put in an extraordinary dilemma, when a N. O. I. member was brutally beat by the racist New York police. Robert Johnson was savagely dragged to the precinct and he was being denied medical treatment after his head was busted open by Police nightsticks. Malcolm, who was the head minister at the New York N. O. I. temple, led a large, disciplined formation of the F. O. I. through the streets of New York causing a large commotion and a Black crowd of people followed them there. The Muslims lined up in a militant line facing the police station with the enormous crowd positioned behind them. This militant action sent shock waves through the police station and community because this was the first time in the history of Black people in racist Amerikkka that anyone had the heart and courage to openly confront the police in such a strong manner!!! Then Malcolm boldly walked into the police station, flanked by just a couple of Muslims and let the other F. O. I. members positioned in a long disciplined formation outside, casting a menacing silent aura. He went to the police front desk and then demanded that the injured Muslim be given medical attention. The police in the station only agreed to the demand once they saw the large militant confrontation-taking place outside. Malcolm walked out and then led the F. O. I. and the gigantic crowd to the hospital to guarantee that the injured Muslim was given medical care. Once he was sure that the Muslim got the help he deserved, Malcolm used just one hand turn and the Muslims did a militant right face and dispersed with the crowd in a matter of seconds! Once the white police officer who witnessed Malcolm X dismiss the Muslims with just one hand gesture, remarked out loud that "That's too much power for one Black man to have!" After this first ever use of confrontational politics, Malcolm X became well known and admired amongst local black residents in New York when the newspapers reported the story the next morning. He was regarded as a true leader of the black community who would not break down even in the face of overwhelming odds.
This was the last time Malcolm was allowed to use the F. O. I. in a confrontational political demonstration. Yet, he was emboldened by this successful use of power against power and begun to also publicly advocate the use of guns in the self-defense of the black community. He was later suspended and left the Nation of Islam. The U. S. government begun to put him under surveillance and directly in the gun sight of COINTELPRO's cross hairs. When his family was threatened and harassed by racist forces, he allowed himself to be photographed with a M-1 carbine assault rifle while he peered out of his home window. This picture became extremely popular throughout the Black movement as Malcolm's most worthy call for the need of armed self-defense of the Black community. This picture was definitely worth more then a thousand words for Black people.
The F. O. I. went on to disavow and prohibit confrontational political demonstrations. They became a division within the Nation of Islam that provided security for Muslims and high leadership officials in their organization. They also focused on checking internal sub-visions and activities of secret agents placed within the organization by racist forces and secured complete records of all persons employed by their organization. It is not known if they ever launched any underground strikes against their racist enemies but I believe most likely they did at sometime.
There were many different organizations that had a critical influence that advanced confrontational political strategy throughout the 1960's like Robert Williams armed Negro Advancement Association for Colored People, The Student "Non-Violent" Coordinating Committee, the Deacons of Defense, Malcolm X's Organization of Afro-American Unity, The Revolutionary Action Movement , and a host of many others. The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense started in 1966 by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale, took confrontational politics to its highest level during the 60's. Minister of Defense, Huey P. Newton, was a street devotee to Malcolm X's theories and practice. In fact, the entire Black Panther for Self-Defense was created in the spirit of Malcolm X after Malcolm was brutally gunned down by COINTELPRO. Huey decided to confront the racist police forces in Oakland whenever they pulled over Black people and tried to brutalize them. Unlike the community patrol organization that just took pictures of random acts of police brutality that operated at that time in L. A., Huey took it a step further by patrolling the police while openly brandishing shotguns because it was still legal to do so in the state of California.
This was also a small-scale adaptation of Malcolm X's late night confrontation at the New York police station. Huey learned from Malcolm that the racist authorities could be effectively challenged and confronted with Black Power against White Power approach. As long as a group maintained a disciplined and legal posture, then the police could check on their illegal brutality and murder of Black people. Huey and Bobby also began to call the police "pigs" on these patrols because it was also a legal thing to do. Huey understood that such a serious act of confronting such a deadly tentacle of our oppression in a militant way would inspire brothers and sisters from off the block to join the struggle for Black liberation.
Out on these patrols facing down the police while openly displaying their weapons helped the panthers capture the hearts and minds of the Black community. When recruits from off the block began to stream into the Panthers, Huey and Bobby took the confrontations to an even higher level by being armed openly, confronting an entire police station after the savage police murder Denzel Dowel. Many Black organizations at that time began to criticize the Black Panthers for being what they referred to as the Panther's being "prematurely paramilitary" and thought the Panthers should have kept their activities underground.
Huey responded to these absurd critiques by writing an article called "The Correct Handling of a Revolution". He pointed out that it was impossible to mobilize the community in a significant manner if the Black revolutionaries did not openly confront the racist enemy to educate the people to resistance. He correctly analyzed that those groups that tired to criticize the Panthers were impostors and fake revolutionaries because they wanted the people of the community to bear the pressure of the police retaliation for such resistance while the so-called revolutionaries hid. He accused these groups of being fake revolutionaries who did nothing but talk and were too afraid to draw the oppressors blood! He wrote that nay true revolutionaries always started out aboveground in order to educate the people to the revolutionary organization existence and desire to help liberate the people, so the government would not be able to lie to the people and make them feel that the revolutionaries were some type of crazy fanatical violent group out to harm the community. He wrote that the group started out aboveground but eventually have to go underground once the oppressor began to target the group in an extreme manner. By then the revolutionaries would have already won the respect of the people and would have created conditions for underground operations to be carried out successfully with the protection of the community.
Eventually Huey's analysis of the struggle would be proven right but the practice of the Panthers took a strategic sharp turn from this position. COINTELPRO sent out a directive to the California State Government to pass a law to effectively strip the Panthers of their right to openly carry guns in public by creating the Mulford Act in 1967. The Black Panthers marched on the state capital building openly armed with guns, while the politicians were in the process of pressing the Mulford Act and started the media into helping the Panthers organization, but the Mulford Act was passed, stripping the communities' right to openly bear arms and eliminated the Panthers patrolling the police with guns. This is the critical point in the Panther history, when they began to confuse the mandatory separation necessary for aboveground and underground operational activities. Their "legal" confrontational politics dissolved into launching offensive strikes in the public arena when Huey carried a concealed handgun in a hollowed out legal book, he carried around on the night of the shootout between him and the Oakland Police took place. This one event has remained concealed from most people for over 40 years until the book, "Will You Die With Me" by Flores "fly" Forbes was published. In this book Fly exposes the truth about the death of officer Frey and the resulting Free Huey movement to save Huey from the gas chamber and get him released. Fly was a high-ranking Panther security official and personally bodyguard for Huey.
When the Minister of Information Eldridge Cleaver took it upon himself to attempt to register an offensive retaliation against the system and openly shot cops in full Panther uniform after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., the Panthers were put permanently on a course of confusion towards the proper practice and balance between aboveground and underground operations. This also provided the government a convenient way to convince the public that the panthers were crazed fanatics in need of extermination and should be deemed Public Enemy Number One!
Eventually the Panthers were manipulated by COINTELPRO into violently feuding with each other in a tragic episode most have come to regard as "the split" in the organization, incorrectly thought of as the East Coast chapters against the West Coast chapters, but was more accurately a division between those Panthers who wanted to stay aboveground and those who wanted to go underground. The aboveground faction sided with Huey and the underground sided with Eldridge. None of them realized then that the government's COINTELPRO had set them all up and manipulated the wedge between them by manufacturing precise handwritten letters and signatures of both Huey and Eldridge. One letter was written to Huey, signed by the government in Eldridge's handwriting stating that Eldridge intended to do serious harm to Huey. The other letter was written to Eldridge by the government in Huey's handwriting stating that Huey intended to shoot at Eldridge. Divide and conquer led to the destruction of the most highly advanced Black organization of the 1960's for Black people trapped in the hells of Amerikkka!!! All this could have been avoided if the Black Panthers adhered to a strict line of aboveground armed self-defense and underground-armed struggle.
Out of this unfortunate disaster of the most effective groups in the 1960's Black Liberation Struggle arose a war torn group of Panther Elders from that period who embody pessimistic post-traumatic stress defeatism. There are a few elders from that era who still have faith in the struggle for freedom so there are some exceptions to the rule, but most elders from back then have took to criticizing the youth for their lack of knowledge of self, fighting each other, and apolitical ways. These holier than though, self-righteous elders fail to take responsibility for being manipulated into Black (Panther) on Black (Panther) violence themselves by COINTELPRO. Instead of being brave and properly educating us, the youth just inherited the Black on Black violence from these elders. Some of them even go so far as to still be foolish enough to feud with each other to this very day at different Panther reunions and rallies for political prisoners who are still locked down from back then!
The Black Riders are the New Generation Black Panthers. We have scientifically analyzed history and mastered the art of confrontational politics. We started off striking fear in the enemy by creating our Watch-A-Pig program. This hard line program consists of fearless Black Rider Warriors who wear camouflaged paramilitary fatigues, berets, and big black boots. We patrol the ruthless barbarian police with video cameras, high tech walkie-talkies, state of the art police scanners, tasers, mace, bats, knives, and any other lethal weapons we can get a hold of. This educates Black people to be fearless against police terrorism, many people have come out of their homes with their own video cameras or camera phones and joined us in line to help watch the pigs, to stop them from hurting the Black community. We have been operating the Watch-A-Pig program for over thirteen years now. Since the passage of the Mulford Act outlawing the original Panthers and the communities' right to openly carry guns in public, we keep legally registered guns on security in Black Rider homes and buildings in case the pigs attack us unjustly and we have to defend ourselves. We openly do military drills and carry long swords or machete whenever legal to do so. We train in many different martial art armed and unarmed combat styles like short staff, sword fighting, katana, Judo, Kung-Fu, Dynamic kicks, arts of breaking, and especially Shodokan death blows. Most of our warriors have developed unorthodox fighting methods gleaned from survival on the dangerous Los Angeles gangland streets.
We have launched large-scale confrontations against many different military type pig stations all over L. A. The most known confrontational political demonstration we did was when we struck the L. A. P. D. headquarters Thirty Deep strong seething with animosity, hostility, and stern faced, after they savagely murdered a 13-year-old boy named Devin Brown in 2005. We led 500 people in a full-scale clash with the armed supremacist group called the Minute "Klan" Men and their racist police bodyguards in Leimert Park. We kicked the Minute "Klan" completely out the "hood". We also stood face to face against overwhelming odds when we ran up on the gigantic L. A. Federal Building to confront the viciously sadistic F. B. I. because of their unjust attack and political incarceration of the San Francisco 8 Panther Elders stemming from a charge that happened way back in 1971.
We have an upgraded self-defense philosophy and a strict policy of separating aboveground and underground activity. The U. S. Governments new COINTELPRO called homeland Security and their PATRIOT Act guidelines have tried to attack us many times and we have defended ourselves from their weak, mindless attempts to eliminate our organization. We will advance the New Black Liberation Movement wave after wave until our people's freedom is secured. He who does not fear the death of a thousand cuts will dare to unseat the emperor!
The Black man and Black woman once culturally inspired, properly trained, and boldly led are the greatest human fighting machines the world has ever known!

NEW PANTHERS STUNNED BY VIOLENT DEATH OF FAHIYM RBG ALI, THEIR MUCH LOVED MINISTER OF INFORMATION!!

Early on Tuesday evening, May 27th, the New Black Panther Party was stunned beyond words to learn that their promising and much loved national minister of information Fahiym ‘RBG’ Ali had been senselessly gunned down in his Florida community.
Apparently, Ali was gunned down in a drive-by after having had a minor altercation earlier with a stranger! Emergency medical personnel were unable to save the stalwart consciousness-raising warrior at a nearby hospital.
Imamu Fahiym Olugbala Ali was also serving as the chairman of the People’s Convention Center of the Provisional Government of the Republic of New Afrika and as a New Afrikan Legionnaire at the time of his death.
He was only 41.
“I would like to believe that the person who did this had no idea who our brother was, or else he likely would not have done it,” said Zayid Muhammad, the Party’s national minister of culture, who is also a gun violence survivor.
“The loss of our brother to this senseless violence should serve as an indicator to all that no one is immune to this plague.
“Most upsettingly is that we truly need young men like Fahiym in the trenches of our communities, using their survivals, their courage and their knowledge to turn this thing around,” finished Muhammad.
Ali was among the soldiers of the New Black Panther Party who withstood physically provocative Texas Rangers in Jasper, Texas just weeks ago protesting the lynching of Alfred Wright.
It must also be noted that Ali was slain on the birth anniversary of Emmitt Till, the Chicago teen whose savage lynching in Mississippi in 1955 actually became a galvanizing factor in the emergence of the Civil Rights Movement. Ali was working with the Panthers on a special demonstration to be held at the U.S. Justice Department on August 28th, to mark the anniversary of Till’s lynching.

On May 27th 2014 The Minister of Information of The New Black Panther Party (NBPP) and Chairman of the Peoples Convention Center of The Provisional Government Republic of New Afrika (PCC PG-RNA), Fahiym Olugbala Ali was brutally assassinated in the streets of Miami, FL.
He recently held down the front line in a standoff and physical altercation with the pig ranger sheriffs in front of a pig department on Highway 190 West in Jasper TX during The National Rally for Justice for Alfred Wright demonstration.
He also helped organize and launch numerous community outreach missions with a few of our comrades the Miami Chapter of The Black Riders Liberation Party (BRLP) through some of the roughest Miami neighborhoods like; Overtown, Liberty City, Pork N’ Beans Projects and Little Haiti.
He was allegedly gunned down in a drive by shooting after a minor altercation. The Emergency medical personal was unable to save the brother at a nearby hospital. However we don’t think this explanation is that simple in this situation. We don’t think the murder of Bro. Fahiym Ali is a coincidence. We will not be naïve enough to fall for the fallacy being portrayed which leads some of us to come to a false assumption/conclusion that this incident was just simply Black on Black genocide as usual. We don’t buy it!
We believe this is a vicious repressive COINTELPRO attack against the new generation African Liberation Movement commonly known as the RBG movement. Whenever someone with a revolutionary charged background dies, let alone murdered, we should never write it off as a common coincidence. Our assassination alarms should instantly sound off in our psyche.
Let’s not forget just 3 months ago, Veteran Elder Vice President of RNA and Mayor elect Jackson MI; Chokwe Lumumba, just passed away of a mysterious death by “unknown natural causes”. On the day after Mother's Day (May 12th), the Ingleside KKKourt trial continues as the Jury is still trying to figure out if the LAPD "officer" had notified Etana of her arrest before he assaulted her, and whether Mecca allegedly "jumped in" with intent to harm the "officer". What will be the verdict?! Will the criminal "injustice" system slap Black People in the face again like in the cases of Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis?! On May 6th, the original trespassing charge was dropped by the judge. If the probable cause for the initial arrest was proven false, then logically one would think all the charges would be dropped! But the racist law of the dominant nation is insane, crazy, and illogical. It would exterminate all Black People! Other Black Riders in L.A. and Oakland are also facing political trials in the coming weeks. Drop all charges!! Not guilty!!!
According to a recent report from Women’s Justice Center of Sonoma, racist police officers in the U.S.A. commit routine violence against women of color without proper reporting, accountability, or consequences.
Late 2013, just a few days after the Black Riders Liberation Party were honored by Kathleen Cleaver and other elders of the original Black Panther Party for service and dedication to revolutionary struggle [link], Etana and Mecca Shakur were physically assaulted by a (single) Inglewood male pig Roger Zeller as they attempted to leave a grocery store while carrying copies of the BRLP newspaper. Etana and Mecca Shakur successfully defended themselves against the assault by saying "NO!", and bringing attention from community members in the vicinity to act as witnesses to an illegal kidnapping. Both were arrested and suffered three days of jail time for nothing, and were released...
Now, during their KKKourt trial stemming from the incident, both women are facing further incarceration, isolation from their community, and separation from their children, all for their political belief that women have the right to stand up and say NO to physical attack.
These strong Black Women are high-ranking members of the BRLP leadership, and highly respected in the community. Etana Shakur is Minister of Community Programs; Mecca Shakur is Minister of Information and a member of the local station board of KPFK Pacifica free speech community radio. These mothers helped to create the George Jackson Freedom School, which provides self-defense and African cultural awareness classes to young Black Children in South Central LA.
Both Mecca and Etana are mothers facing separation from their children if this state attack succeeds.

People will pack the Inglewood Courthouse, at One Regent Street in Inglewood (one block south of Florence between La Brea and Fir) on Wednesday, July 31 at 8:30 AM, in courtroom 02A, to demand Justice for Etana and Mecca Shakur, two Black Riders Liberation Party comrade sisters, who defended themselves against assault by the Inglewood PD while doing community work, and are falsely charged with alleged assault and Battery on a police officer.
The Hands Off Africa Movement, initiated by the BRLP, is demanding Hands Off Etana and Mecca Shakur, drop all charges! The campaign, which is on-going, is organizing for Justice for Trayvon, support for the prison hunger strikers, to free all political prisoners, and to withdraw all racist US/NATO forces from Africa. They also demand Hands Off Assata Shakur and Cuba.

M.E.ChX.A de CCSF

For decades, the Chicano Movement was among the most successful in organizing students and having demands met. After the Chicano Movement of the 1960s and early '70s, however, there have been very few Chican@ student-led movements. What we've seen in the past decade has been mass mobilization within the undocumented community for a humane immigration reform involving undocumented youth groups, religious organizations, and community organizations. It's about to be a decade since the wave of mass protest actions across the country for immigration reform back in the spring of 2006, but nothing has been done since that time on a national level for immigrants other than the passing of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which only benefits those who are considered an asset to the U.S economy.
The discontent in the Latino community with politicians who keep promising a just immigration reform is much like the discontent with the Democratic Party in relation to Chicanos who were appointed or elected to political office. The Chicano organizations began to realize that these politicians did not care for the average Chican@ or their living standards in los barrios, so they began to withdraw from the Democratic Party. With the wave of new migration from Latin America, the undocumented community grew and began a movement of its own.  For the Chicano organizations, the issues concerning the undocumented community were last on the agenda.
The vision of creating a M.E.Ch.X.A chapter at  City College of San Francisco (CCSF) became a reality on Tuesday, March 11. Students knew that creating a chapter was vital in the struggle to protect and defend CCSF's mission of remaining accessible to all students. The organizations already established on campus were not strong enough, or determined enough, to take on the whole accreditation crisis or the bad administrative policies that disproportionately affect students of color.
One of those policies was the new payment policy implemented to make sure that students paid their tuition up front. Undocumented students who do not qualify for AB540 -- a policy that would allow them to receive in-state tuition and the bog waiver, which pays their tuition, if eligible -- would have to pay a minimum of $800 per class at a community-college level. Tuition fees keep increasing and resources are scarce.
The development of a M.E.Ch.X.A chapter on campus has grown in the past month. It was part of the rally that happened two days after the chapter's formation; eight chapter members were part of the student occupation of the administration building, as ending the payment policy was one of the demands of the student action. We've had tremendous support from students and faculty members in the Latino Studies Department, which has proven the level of commitment of students and faculty towards the movement.
M.E.Ch.A is a national organization that promotes higher education, political involvement, cultura and historia. The undocumented community shares those same struggles, but with the additional burden of not having a legal status in the country to be able to achieve those goals.
The organization on the CCSF campus of undocumented students is an exception to the militancy and self-determination of other undocumented groups in San Francisco. A few campus groups offer a safe space where undocumented students can gather and talk about issues within the community; these groups offer resources to undocumented students. This is helpful, but it's very limited. When it comes to fighting back against the attacks on public education, these groups are less willing to struggle since the majority qualify for AB540.
Those affected by the school administration's attacks -- and those truly wanting to defend the rights of ALL undocumented students -- found they had no option but to organize themselves and be involved in political discussions about how best to defend public education and demand changes to the administration's policies.
As un undocumented student, it has been very conflicting for me to start a chapter of an organization that has not given recognition to undocumented students throughout the majority of its history. It seems that when it comes to the undocumented question, the only thing M.E.Ch.A has done nationally is stand in solidarity with the undocumented student struggle in the most recent years.
For the most part, Chicanos do not understand the undocumented struggle. And when you have a group of undocumented students who understand the struggle but don't wish to act on it, things gets complicated and you begin to question the reasoning of the organization's existence.
Having said this, not all M.E.Ch.A chapters have stood on the sidelines in relation to undocumented immigrants. The M.E.Ch.A chapter at UC Berkeley, for example, did an amazing job organizing demonstrations against new UC President Janet Napolitano, the former department head of Homeland Security who was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deportations under the Obama administration.
In hopes of creating a bridge between understanding the undocumented struggle and taking action on the issues that affect our community regardless of citizenship status, M.E.ChX.A de CCSF will be inclusive to all who identify with Chicanismo.
On April 4-6 Mechistas from our CCSF chapter attended the M.E.Ch.A. California statewide conference in order to be officially recognized as a chapter and introduce our ideas to revitalize the movement. We had a very welcoming experience and an understanding of how the organization works. There is no doubt that other M.E.Ch.A. chapters agreed with us when it comes to acknowledging that the founding documentos of the organization are outdated and need to be more inclusive to our undocumented brothers and sisters.
Along with getting recognized, our chapter was chosen to organize the next regional meeting for Alta Califas Norte and also one of our mechistas, Lalo Gonzalez, was elected National M.E.Ch.A. Co-Chair to represent our region at Nationals. Given this opportunity, we will push for our vision of taking back what it rightfully ours, access to education, immigration reform, and protecting Ethnic Studies. Power comes with numbers, and M.E.ChX.A de CCSF is growing rapidly. It's only a matter of time when it comes to bringing back el movimiento.

L@s Autonomous Brown Berets of Sonoma County

We are the continuing legacy of the original organization founded in 67 our of East LA that have adapted to changing times to best fit the struggle for our people's due self determination. Inspired by the work of the Black Panther Party for Self Defence, the Brown Berets where originally designed to be a copwatch program to combat the police abuse of the Raza community in East LA. But as we came to realize that many social issues are interconnected, we quickly evolved our political philosophy to include other sectors of the struggle for social justice such as disproportionate war recruitment, cultural relevance, free health services, proper educational opportunities, voting and labor issues.

In the of the radical times of social activity of the 60s and 70s, the popularity of grassroots militancy quickly fomented the growth of the organization throughout the entire Western half of the country. Under the name of the Brown Beret National Organization, many programs continued to be carried out like the ones I recently mentioned, with the perspective of the two founding principles of self-determination and nationalism. Sonoma County had its original Beret group in the 70s that had approximately 400 members and continued the work of copwatch program, food distribution to the hungry and free health clinics among other programs. In November of 72' the national organization was officially disbanded by the co-founder and then Prime Minister David Sanchez ultimately due to infiltration of Law Enforcement Agencies from all levels of government.

Local and Regional Brown Beret organizations continued to organize. The Berets of the San Diego County eventually decided to form as an independent official organization, taking up the name Brown Berets de Aztlan and continue to organize social movement to this day. In the region of New Mexico, Arizona and Texas, the Carnalismo Brown Berets formed, also as its own independent organization that also continue to organize today. I dont have much more organizational information about these two factions. In the 90s the BBNO was re-established by several original members and began to form chapters throughout the southwest of the country as popularity increased. As these factions developed independently, they also grew into their specific niches that best fit their local movements. Hence slight differences of ideology among them. Originally organized as an independent chapter, Sonoma County experienced the growth of its second generation of Brown Berets during this time. We eventually disbanded from the coercion of David Sanchez' demand to affiliate with the then intended resurgence of his affiliated network of chapters.
The establishment of our faction was accredited to the development of the Watsonville Brown Berets, as they disbanded from the BBNO in 1998 I believe and when they did so they published a position paper rejecting nationalism and declaring themselves autonomous. They continued organizing movement such as their Liberation School where they offered tutoring and counceling support, their annual Youth and Power informational event and their annual Peace and Unity March which they held since their establishment in 1994. They solidified relationships with many local community organizations and where active in their local political process. What separated them from the other Beret organizations it that they infused their organization with native ceremony which further reinforced their commitment to communal and healthy lifestyles as a means to establishing our revolutionary vision shared throughout all history of social justice. This was apparent in their organizing structure and approach. Under the guidance of elders, the Native perspective of a cyclical world view was eventually internalized by them familiarizing themselves with ceremonial practices like Sweat Lodge ceremony and Danza Azteca. It was routine for them to ritually begin and end their meetings in a circle, and a traditional collective smudging of sage smoke. Throughout this time, they gained wide spread recognition from the work they where doing (as most of us activists do inspired from by our hearts, without the intent of doing social justice work for fame), which helped the calling of other organizers to establish Brown Beret chapters of direct association. This is what provoked the creation of the Autonomous faction of Brown Berets, while during this time having chapters in LA, Fresno, Houston, Boise, Salt Lake City, El Paso, Sacramento and Sonoma County (among others). The Watsonville Brown Berets decided to temporarily disband in 2013.

Our current generation of Brown Berets of Sonoma County began in April of 2010 as a small group of young men of different backgrounds felt that our community needed this type of revolutionary political-cultural perspective which was not found in our area. We quickly got to establishing our organization suited to our local area, have continuously been developing and strive to always be open to learning while 'keeping our eyes on the prize' (and old movement saying). We are consensus-based in our decisions and have our Elders' Council as a general guide and support, who we are given very wise advice from. Ideologically, we respect the necessity of having a nationalist perspective because the ages old struggle for social justice is necessarily born out of the need for the oppressed to liberate themselves, and therefore existing the necessity to identify with traits that unifies these people(not limited to ethnicity or class). We also respect active internationalist solidarity, which we believe is just as important as nationalism in collectively manifesting the environment of a revolutionary/utopian society of social justice. In having a reasoned balance of these two principles, we agree that we do allow anybody for our recruitment process but will always continue to be a Raza oriented organization. Early on, we participated in the occupation of Sogorea-Te (the Glen Cove take back in Vallejo), presented several workshops at several events, held a live-broadcasted discussion panel (in collaboration with our historic KBBF), and a few fundraisers. We have usually preferred to collaborate with other organizations for the purposes of building relationships. Recently we have added Ramon to our group and are proud of his exemplary activity that embodies the example of a developing Brown Beret with his heart in the right place, an element required for the long-term revolutionary struggle. We have continued to stay true to the vision of a revolutionary perspective and have not lost our way by falling to the illusion of liberalism (the notion of seemingly progressive politics that is ultimately un-loyal to the people) or selling out in any other way.

The struggle is long from dead. The only reasonable way to deal with today's reality is by living the genuine existence that the revolutionary life-style advocates. Ignoring a problem is the easiest way of selling out. Our loved ones and our people of today, the past and the future depend on us to do our part to make all the difference for them and for ourselves. One of the most grounding fundamentals us revolutionaries live with is that we are honest with our own selves. This allows us to be genuine with others and paves the road for the establishing of the revolutionary world that, in one way or another, we all have always struggled for.
